2019 the “You Year”

The “You Year”when it comes to planning your new start for 2019!

The new year is almost here and it’s the perfect opportunity to make it the “you year”; find out who you want to be and make it happen!

This new year make every step count; remember goals don’t have to be too Big to be as equally important!

Remember perseverance also shows your really invested and truly want what your aiming for rather than “I should be doing this but don’t really want to”.

Keep the path true to you!

Keeping visuals on your “you year” to motivate you. Help from photos or that item of clothing you want to wear to identify yourself. You might want to have words to help describe you; such as active, healthy, happy.

Success step examples might be;

Keep a diary, have a tick-off chart for each day you did what you set out to do;

An object such as, “That dress or suit” hanging up you want to fit again and feel the best you can be;

That fun dance class that doesn’t feel like exercise but is helping you be more active;

The walk or hike with friends, which means your socialising and being active all in one go;

Have a list of new things to try, projects you want to do round the house to make you feel productive and organised.

Keep this new year fun and interesting, try new things, new activities and visit places you haven’t before, keep things motivational and moving throughout 2019!

Remember something that challenges you positively both mentally and physically is important as it links in your mind and body healthy.

Surround yourself with people that boost you to want to succeed and feel good about who you are. Take part in activities that motivate you and always have something that are also just for you “me time”

Create a list of days out for when you have free time so your ready and prepared to max the use of this time and go and do something positive and planed; such as walks in parks/gardens you may you have annual access to and surrounded yourself in some good “old free fresh air” in natural surroundings of the great outdoors.

Another really good tip is, when your in a good place ask yourself what helps you on the days where you motivation slips a little, then make note of the “go-to’s” that spur you on!

When looking at the new year 2019, remind yourself of all the steps you have already taken to get to where you are!

I love when a new year comes around and letting go of what has been and cant be changed and looking ahead at the new beginning ahead.

My diary has a clear page and a fresh start! So when it comes to the new year I have realistic but motivational goals for myself and I can’t wait.

I work out what I want to focus on by working out what are my 4 core areas of my life right now and write a positive shift I would like to make in each area of my life.

I wish you all a happy “You” year 2019!

“The power hour”

With the clocks going back in the uk recently by an hour, I found myself feeling the effects of how much having an extra hour can make!

I thought that I should look to use an hour a week wisely; a “power hour”!

This hour will give me time to sit down and sort through the things I want achieve; get done for the week ahead; and get super organised.

There really is alot to be said about having 60 minutes of pure planning.

So my “power hour” I have decided needs to be on a day where it is practical and works well for me. I decided to go for a Friday as this is a good day for enough time to plan and get things ready for the following week ahead. It’s important that you make your “power hour” work for you and on your most practical day too!

During this hour I start with a note pad and pen or anything you want to use for getting things written down and of course a good thinking space.

The first part is to clear your mind of mind-chatter. Then every day thoughts of to-do tasks, they need addressing first to allow you to be really focused. Start with getting those shopping lists and diary dates sorted and out of your mind. This allows you to move on to the next part.

This is the powerful part as this means you write down things that you can start to make happen.

Its then time look at your aims for the week ahead;

start with;

next week I want to ….. and right down 2 or 3 things you really want to do or get done that will allow you to feel you have moved forward from where things currently are.

This could be something like, finally clearing out that cupboard you have, which is a mess. This style of task has a domino affect because this task being done leads to there then being space you didn’t have and you can use this to store the things you love to use or for hobbies, such as baking, crafts or more storage to feel organised.

Maybe a reading library space, the possibilities are endless if you want to get creative and also based on the location of the cupboard.

This task leads to measurable results and creates a positive shift for your living environment.

Now the second part. This part is to look at another area in your life.

“what are you doing that challenges you in a positive way? What’s on the cards for the week ahead?

what are you currently working on to keep you progressing personally. It’s so important to feel challenged in the right way and regularly.

So this part of the list is where you write down things you wont to do to progress in your personal development at the moment, such as trying new things. This might be a job, learning new skill or craft. Join a social group and don’t be afraid of trying new things out!

Just think the worse that could happen is you try it and decide it’s not for you but at least you’ll never be left wondering what if!

This type of challenge can also be layering on anything you are currently doing that you want to step up such as running further distance, gaining a further qualification, basically anything that means you step up your game as long as you keep things progressing. Make it fun and something that leaves you feeling motivated in your life and of course happy!

Now the third part,

What can you change?

This needs to be something that is not working at the moment or makes you feel negative.

This maybe a feeling that you are failing at something and that if it was working correctly it could really bring a lot to your life.

An example might result in pro action to gym attendance. You may currently have set unreasonable and unrealistic timings, which don’t work. You maybe not motivated, to tired or your other life commitments get in the way at the current evenings dedicated to this.

Therefore this is your area to change, set a plan of action of how you are going to make this work!

This could be trying a morning workout on a day where there is less pressure maybe a weekend, a morning on your route to work or during your lunch hour.

Try the change of plan out during the week ahead; remember nothing is set in stone and you can make a change to make it work!

Anything that you are doing but currently no-longer want to do, is suitable ditch it! whenever your ready to of course and find something better to use your time.

Make sure you log all your changes and steps you have made as it’s so rewarding to see the journey you have been on and how far you have come!

remember “every step counts”

How to take real “Time off” from the normal routine.

DSCN3966.JPG_1

Why is it when it comes to having time away (a time that should recharge us), we often return and quickly feel like we never left!

I wanted to try to explore ways of getting more from my short (1-2 day) holiday breaks away with the family so that they refuel me.

I want those breaks to have a lasting effect, to feel the benefit when I return to normal routine.

So, I did just this and headed to the coast!  I took some things I love such as a camera for taking photos of the scenery, a notebook and pen to write down my thoughts and any ideas that come to me, and I took my workout gear.

One of my strategies for this break to really work, was to take myself away from anything that had a screen, for me a break from social media and the phone was key to really relaxing; no Wi-Fi, no clock watching, no tv on, no rushing round. This change allowed me to take “real-time” off from normal life. My time was spent doing the things I enjoy, allowed me time to pause and take everything in.

I was able to do activities that allowed me to feel really calm  and positive, and I had emotional space to notice how much that environment was influencing my mood and behaviour. I felt so much happier and relaxed!

This time allowed me to see what my life can be like if I make certain changes when I return home. For example, managing my workload, looking at the time spent on tasks that are not really benefiting me, and limiting my screen use. I could focus on what I *want* to spend more of my limited spare time doing.

I took this opportunity of time away to start one of my goals; to eat a lot cleaner food (nothing artificial, only natural sugars).  While there I really enjoyed buying food sourced from the local farm shops. I cut back my caffeine intake too, as it seemed the right time.

I love being by the sea and it was very clear to me how quickly this new environment had such a positive impact.

This time and space allowed me to feel recharged for the first time in ages; I had a real break!

keys to successful breaks

1, Choose an environment somewhere that’s the opposite to your home one, or to a place you really want to go to.

2, Cut back on “screen time” social media, phone calls, emails etc as much as you can.

3, Take a note of how the different places you visit whilst there made you feel. Was there anything that you felt some inspiration from? Drawn to? Want to now do? If so don’t forget to add them to some of your SMART goal lists.

4, Think about any new good habits whilst there you could bring back with you to include into your normal routine, such as eating better, getting more active, planning more “me” time doing things you enjoy.

5, Make sure you pack things that make you happy and are a positive way to occupy your time.  Examples of this: reading materials, craft project stuff, walking gear, workout gear, notebook and pen etc. It’s great to try these activities in new surroundings.

6, stop clock watching, don’t rush around, you doing need to do this here so make the most of this.

7, every time you go to do some activity whilst away, just ask yourself do you want to do this or do you feel you have to, and try to do the I want to do this, over the I feel you should, this is for you this time. Can any tasks wait till you return, if so leave it for then this is your break.

9, pack ready for this break, take the things you have wanted to read, do, make but have not made the time and put them in the case ready, preparation is key.

10, take pictures, remember this time and use this when you return to remind you on where you want to be and the true aims you have in your life when back to normal routine.

Enjoy trying new things and all the different environments on offer.  Look at how you react to the new surroundings and explore how it makes you feel and behave.
